Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
