Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period like this with performances like these.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
