The esteemed football figure has made clear that he is avoiding a re-entry into football management, explaining that it would be tough to match the higher calling he felt as head of the Three Lions.

Southgate suggested his aim to channel his attention toward working with the youth and addressing what he called a widespread pessimistic outlook presently found in the country.

Embracing Different Paths Away from Coaching

Speaking on air, the manager was questioned on rumors linking him with vacant management roles in the Premier League and abroad.

“Leading my country gave my work in football a deeper meaning and purpose,” he responded. “Recreating that unique role won’t be easy. With 37 years in football behind me, I’m excited to identify fresh ways to create impact.”

Commitment to Role Models

Ahead of the launch of his upcoming book, his new work on leadership, the author shared that he is deeply committed about offering guidance for teenagers, drawing on lessons from his time as leader of the England team from 2016 and 2024, as well as his role as a father.

He believes that his journey leading the national team, during which the team shifted from being widely disliked to broadly loved, holds general lessons.

“Initially, the relationship with supporters was severely strained,” he explained. “Many perceived the squad as arrogant, but we managed to change that perception. I witnessed firsthand how the team could unite individuals from all backgrounds.”

Family Life and Influencing Youth

Speaking from his experience as a father, Southgate remarked: “You want to give your kids the best possible start, but there is a point when they don’t want to listen to parents any more. I experienced that in my house in the same way everybody else will … but I do think this is an important space for us.”

He continued: “Currently, a pessimistic story dominates national discourse, and we must offer youth optimism and direction. The country is full of potential, but young individuals require positive influences and supportive peers, as these choices shape their futures profoundly.”

Togetherness Beyond Conflict

He insisted that “there is more that unites us [in the UK] than divides us” but that the public discourse often emphasizes division.

“The reasons for public dissatisfaction are clear,” he said. “Many areas face economic hardship, which naturally inspires demands for improvement. However, I’ve experienced the power of national unity. In the Covid crisis, acts of community support showed the country at its finest, proving our resilience when challenged.”

His new release, the book Dear England, is expected to provide deeper reflections on guidance and national identity drawn from his notable career.
