The ice cream brand's Founding Partner States Parent Company Halted Pro-Palestinian Ice Cream Flavor
One of the co-founders behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has claimed how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.
The entrepreneur, who co-founded the business with his partner, disclosed how he will independently develop this new flavor as part of an individual series showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking out about.
Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner
This latest announcement intensifies the ongoing tension among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.
The co-founders have claimed how the parent company along with their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".
Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol for Support
Mr. Cohen announced via social media how he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for consumer ideas regarding naming options and potential ingredients.
“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”
The watermelon has emerged as an emblem for support for Palestinians due to its colors, which match the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.
Historical Social Engagement plus Current Developments
In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas under Israeli control, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution within disputed territories.
This upcoming product line is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand which originally created several years back for endorsing former political contender Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".
Leadership Changes and Upcoming Intentions
Mr. Cohen stated that he will create additional ice cream flavors that address concerns that the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.
The announcement follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company recently, after many years of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how the company's autonomy was undermined after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.
At that time, Ben Cohen remarked how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."
"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the values which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he told media outlets.
