The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their unions for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with schooling – truly monumental. And, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
